Curatorial Services

Over the years, the Galerie St. Etienne has developed an extensive body of knowledge about the artists and art-historical movements we represent. We know "what is out there": both in terms of the artist's entire production (or oeuvre) and in terms of the location of particular works. Therefore, we are in an excellent position to:

  • Help a collector shape a truly great collection
We can advise on the appropriateness of specific acquisitions and locate important items. We can also help prune and refine an existing collection.
  • Help curators locate and obtain loans for exhibitions at public institutions
The Galerie St. Etienne has assisted in the organization of dozens of exhibitions at museums all over the world, including the Schirn Kunsthalle in Frankfurt, the Tate Museum and the Royal Academy in London, the Guggenheim Museum and Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa, the Isetan Museum in Tokyo, and the Historisches Museum der Stadt Wien and the Österreichische Galerie in Vienna.
  • Guest-curate exhibitions for public institutions
The Galerie St. Etienne has guest-curated exhibitions for institutions ranging in size from small college art galleries to huge museums like the National Gallery in Washington. We are keenly aware of the considerations--including scholarship, budget and transportation--that shape such projects. Sometimes we have generated exhibitions from scratch at the specific behest of outside institutions; other times, we have adapted shows originally organized on our premises to travel elsewhere.

Important Note! The Galerie St. Etienne maintains extensive ownership records on works of art, but it does not make an owner's name and address available to any outside party without the owner's express consent. When asked to assist in curating an exhibition, we forward loan request letters on behalf of the organizing institution and give each collector the option of revealing his/her identity or remaining anonymous. Should the collector choose to remain completely anonymous, the Galerie St. Etienne will handle all the details of the loan on his/her behalf, supervising all paperwork, transportation and insurance.
